Mazda Heritage and Sustainability

As Mazda looks to the future, we can't forget the past. Having begun as a cork manufacturer in 1920, Mazda is now one of leading automakers in the world. In a nod to our origin, our first all-electric SUV - the 2022 Mazda MX-30 - features cork in its interior. This highly renewable material also symbolizes Mazda's commitment to a more sustainable future. Chico Mazda is proud of our heritage, and we're happy to have several MX-30 models for sale in our new inventory near Redding, CA.

MAZDA HISTORY

Mazda was founded in Hiroshima, Japan in 1920, but at that time, it was known as the Toyo Cork Kogo Corporation. The facility expanded its production to include machine tools, and then - in 1931 - the company created its first vehicle, the "Mazda-go", which was a tricycle truck. Later on, more small vehicles were manufactured for the Japanese market, the Wankel rotary engine was created, and our business began to expand. By 1970, Mazda Motor of America (N.W.), Inc. was launched in Seattle, Washington. Later that year, the first U.S. imports were shipped from Hiroshima to Seattle and Mazda began selling cars in America.

Maxda X-30 Sustainable Materials | Chico Mazda in Chico CA

Fifty-one years after the first Mazda vehicles came to the U.S., we built our first electric SUV. Along with an eco-friendly powertrain, the all-new 2022 Mazda MX-30 has natural resources built into its interior. It doesn't just utilize cork in its cabin, it also has materials made from recycled plastic bottles. This sustainable material is used in the door trim to give it an airy texture that Biggs, CA drivers will appreciate. Other implementations of cork, recycled threads, and organic materials can be found throughout the MX-30's interior. Mazda combined them with leatherette upholstery, contrast stitch ing, and earth-toned colors to create a tasteful, elegant cabin ambiance in the new MX-30.
